NEW Weekend Baby Storytime(Age 0-1)

Join us for Baby Lap-Sit Storytime at the Library! Baby storytime is the perfect way to learn about early literacy with your non-walking baby. Join us in a friendly circle as we read board books together and sing fun songs to engage your non-walking children. Baby Storytime will take place in the Children’s Room before our Library opens - please note that you will need to enter through the Garden Gate on the very right side of the building, instead of entering through our main entrance doors. Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Description Join us for a weekly Tai Chi session with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance, through slow and gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

Introduction to Python For Beginners

Description Join us to learn the basics of engineering and Python programming; no prior knowledge needed! In 8-weeks, we’ll cover Python fundamentals, hands-on projects, and grow our technical skills and enthusiasm for future STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning opportunities. This program is intended for 3-5th grade students. This program meets weekly on Sundays starting at 11:00 AM from September 14th through November 2nd. Registration is required for the full 8-week series, as each session builds upon the last.Due to limited library laptop availability, bringing your own device with Wi-Fi connection capabilities for coding is highly encouraged! If you cannot bring a laptop, please check out a Chromebook at the library’s front desk ahead of time for each class.Registration will open on August 14th at 9:00 AM.

Duck and Cover, An Explosion of Science! - Monthly STEM Workshop

Join us for our monthly STEM Workshop presented by teen volunteers in Girls Empowered in Math and Science (GEMS)! This one-hour workshop includes a brief presentation explaining the concepts involved in the activities.Welcome to Duck and Cover, An Explosion of Science! This October, GEMS. is hosting a natural disaster-themed workshop with three hands-on simulation activities. Participants will begin by creating their very own erupting volcanoes, and will then build an earthquake shake table to investigate the effects of earthquake shock waves. Finally, students will explore tectonic plate movement with a sugary graham cracker challenge. Protect your head and hold on tight - this month’s workshop will be erupting with science!Free. STEM: The Adventure of Birds

In these interactive sessions, participants will build an appreciation for native bird species. In the proceeding weeks, this program will cover the following.Session 1: Introduction to the structure of birds with the creation of paper models and drawings of birds. This session will include a short nature walk.Session 2: Introduction to bird watching with an introduction to the American Crow and Canada Goose with the creation of Canada Goose made of play dough and bird id cards for American Crows. Session 3: Introduction to bird migration with a creation of paper models of wings.Session 4: What can people do to help birds with creation of a bird feeder or bird house. There will also be an introduction to how to identify a fledgling, and what is the best thing to do if you find one.Registration Required. If you register, please be on-time. (Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. Sew Easy! Hand Sewing Workshop

This program is for children ages 7-12. Registration is required to guarantee a space, but walk-ins are welcome provided we have enough materials.Learn just how easy sewing can be with Sew Easy! This volunteer-led program will guide children through creating their very own hand-sewn project. Get creative and hone fine motor skills with a needle and thread. For this session, we will sew bats for Halloween, and if time allows, participants may also make a pumpkin. We will learn different stitching types, practice technique, decorate, and complete our own sewing project to take home. All materials provided. Registration is required to secure your spot, but walk-ins welcome provided there are enough materials. Please include an email address when registering. Science Academy Presents: Ice Cream Making

Improve your math skills and apply them through fun math-related activities! Participants will focus on a variety of math concepts and do hands-on math activities in this weekly drop-in program. Meditative Banig Drawing

Join Kenneth Tan, author of Crescenciana: A Memoir in Words and Illustrations, for an engaging class on drawing banigs—traditional Filipino woven mats. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore a variety of line patterns inspired by Filipino weaving and tattoo designs. You’ll then apply these patterns to create your own distinctive banig illustration. This creative process is not only accessible to all skill levels but also offers a calming, meditative, and enjoyable experience.This program is offered on a first-come, first-served basis until all seats are filled. STEMMABLE Autumn STEM Workshops for Children and Families

STEMMABLE is a girl-led youth nonprofit in the San Francisco Bay Area that loves getting kids excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). A dedicated group of teen volunteers from eight local high schools presents free, hands-on workshops where kids can explore, build, and have fun while learning something new. We’d love for your family to attend these upcoming workshops! They’re designed for kids ages 6–12; however, younger children (ages 4–8) are welcome too if they attend with a parent, older sibling, or other caregiver. Spooky Crafternoon: Monster Bookmarks

You’ve gathered some ghost stories and are excited to read, but how will you save your spot on your reading journey this fall? Level up your bookish adventures by creating your own monster bookmark! In this drop-in craft program participants will learn simple folding techniques to make their own corner bookmarks out of decorative paper. They’ll be able decorate their creations to conjure a spooky creature of their choosing. Make one for yourself, one for a friend, it’ll be a cauldron of bookish fun!
