Reading Buddies

Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to improve their reading skills by working one-on-one with a volunteer reading coach.Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our reading coach will listen to children read and provide support in phonics, sight words, and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Seven Trees Branch Library.Free. Rangoli Demonstration

Rangoli is a traditional Indian folk art in which intricate patterns are created on the floor using colored powders, rice flour, flower petals, and other natural materials. An ancient Hindu art form, it is used to decorate homes and public spaces during festivals and auspicious events. Visit the Library Plaza to watch rangoli artist Pooja Virkar create a beautiful design for Diwali. Introduction to Filipino Martial Arts

Celebrate Filipino American History Month with a hands-on introduction to traditional Filipino martial arts! Led by a certified master instructor, this engaging class teaches self-defense techniques while exploring a powerful part of Filipino heritage. Filipino martial arts—known as arnis, eskrima, or kali—originated centuries ago and were developed for practical defense using sticks, blades, and empty-hand techniques. These fighting styles have been passed down through generations and are recognized as the national martial art and sport of the Philippines. Participants will build coordination, confidence, and cultural awareness through movement and guided instruction. No prior experience necessary—just come ready to move and learn. Branch Buddy Volunteering for Families

Every now and then, libraries need a little extra love from the communities they serve. You can volunteer away your library fines at a rate of $20 per hour while helping the library maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Volunteers will be responsible for: Book cover cleaning – Use disinfecting wipes to reinvigorate dingy books.Bookshelves – Dust shelves and organize library materials.Deep cleaning computers – Use disinfecting wipes to disinfect computer mice and mouse pads and compressed air to remove any dust particles or debris.Material inspection – Check books for torn pages, pen marks, etc. This is a perfect opportunity for families interested in volunteering away their library fines. Music at Kohl Mansion presents Prague’s Bennewitz Quartet

Description Music at Kohl Mansion, a nonprofit organization based in Burlingame, brings us the Bennewitz Quartet from Prague. Founded in 1998 and based in Prague, the Bennewitz Quartet is one of the top ensembles on the international chamber music scene. After winning two prestigious competitions – Osaka Chamber Music and Festa 2005, and Premio Paolo Borciani, Italy 2008, the quartet quickly gained the acclaim of the critics. The ensemble has received various awards and in 2019 won the “Classic Prague Award” for the Best Chamber Music Performance of the year. Last season, the Bennewitz Quartet returned to several European venues, including Wigmore Hall London, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, and Konzerthaus Berlin, performing the string quintets by Dvořák and Brahms with guest violist Veronika Hagen. The quartet performed in the United States, making its debut in Providence, Houston, and Tucson, and returned to the Music and Beyond Festival in Ottawa and The Harvard Musical Association. In the Czech Republic, the Bennewitz Quartet presented the final concerts of Dvořák’s string quartets as part of the Dvořák Prague Festival.
