STEM: Nature Journaling: Art, Observation, and Science
This workshop will introduce students (ages 6-12) to nature journaling, which is a practice that combines art, science, and curiosity about the natural world! Through drawing, writing, and scientific thinking to explore plants, insects, and natural objects in our world, students will practice slowing down to notice details in plants, animals, and natural objects; record observations by sketching natural objects, writing observations and descriptions; and counting petals, measuring leaves, and estimating sizes. They will also ask scientific questions through prompts like "I notice...", I wonder...", and "It reminds me of..." to encourage curiosity and deep thinking! Materials such as small natural items (leaves, flowers, pinecones, acorns, etc), pencils, erasers, paper (in the form of sketchbooks), and colored pencils will be provided, but if students want to bring more, they may. If you register, please arrive on time. Registered participants who are more than 15 minutes late may lose their spot to a walk-in participant. ADA Accommodation Requests
