Festival of Lights: A Diwali Celebration
Description Join us at the Mitchell Park Community Center, as we celebrate Diwali! Enjoy fun activities for all ages including: Ongoing from 1-3 PM: Henna with teaching artist Rachel-Anne Palacios (Adobe Room; henna line closes at 2:30 PM !) Rangoli (chalk coloring craft outside in the Courtyard) Crafts (Decorating diyas and making lanterns in Adobe Room) All activities available while supplies last! Performance from [time TBD] in El Palo Alto Room: Experience the Festival Lights through Indian classical dance, storytelling, music, and hands-on learning with Laya Arts Collective. Perfect for families and audiences of all ages—come learn, move, and celebrate! Rachel-Anne Palacios is an Afro-Chicana Oakland native, multi-cultural arts educator, and self-taught folk artist. She has been teaching art workshops and classes at Bay Area schools and libraries for over a decade and a half and her lessons and projects are inspired by indigenous cultures and traditional art from around the world. Laya Arts Collective , founded by award-winning artist Priya Narayana, is dedicated to sharing Indian classical dance and culture with diverse communities. Through performances, residencies, and educational programs, Laya Arts Collective inspires audiences with storytelling, rhythm, and movement that connect tradition to the present day.
