Cunamacué: Dance Together Class
Learn Festejo, a fun and vibrant dance from Peru. This is an engaging, intergenerational class that immerses participants in Afro-Peruvian culture through the festive dance of Festejo. Class is geared for children up to 8 years old and their adults. This interactive experience encourages family bonding while exploring cultural traditions through movement and music, making it a fun and educational activity for children and their caregivers. This session features live music and culminates in an exciting dance routine that celebrates the festive spirit of this beloved rhythm. The class lasts approximately 40 minutes. Cunamacué was founded in 2010 in Oakland, California by Carmen Román — dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and educator –– born in Lima, Peru, with the purpose of bringing visibility to the presence and cultural knowledge of the African descendant population in Peru.
