STEM: Adventures with Artimals - Rattlesnake

Come with us to learn about and craft a rattlesnake! This lesson will consist of three parts: an interactive presentation with fascinating facts about a rattlesnake, a guided exploration of the anatomy of a snake through our Gale Interactive Science resource, and a guided art project that will allow students to be creative and apply what they just discovered. Furry Friends Reading Buddies

Learning to read is hard, and practicing reading out loud can be a challenge. Kids can come practice reading out loud to dogs. Reading to dogs can help reduce the stress of practicing reading. (Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. Math Club

Improve your math skills and apply them through fun math-related activities! Participants will focus on a variety of math concepts and do hands-on math activities in this weekly drop-in program. For children in grades 3-5 only. Registration not required. Instruction on the week’s concept will occur during the first 15-20 minutes, so please arrive on time. Sew Easy! Hand Sewing Workshop
Time: 1:30 PM | Location: King Library Library - Children’s Exploration Room, Mezzanine
Learn just how easy sewing can be with Sew Easy! This program, led by volunteer Ms. Shenoy, will guide children through creating their very own hand-sewn project. Get creative and hone fine motor skills with a needle and thread. This is a recurring program with a new project for each session. For this session, we will sew our own library card holder! We will learn different stitching types, practice technique, and complete our own sewing project to take home. Materials provided. This event is free with limited capacity. This program is for children ages 7-12. We can take up to 15 children with caregivers on a first come, first served basis. Learning Chinese language and Culture For Kids Ages 8-13 years old

Join us for an interactive program designed to help participants learn basic Chinese language skills and develop an appreciation for Chinese culture through fun and engaging activities. All materials will be provided. This program focuses on traditional Chinese. The program runs for 8 weeks, meeting twice per week, with 1‑hour sessions. This is a free program for Children ages 8 to 13 years old. Space is limited to 20 people, and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for each session. The class schedule is as follows Saturdays 2pm and Sundays 2pm in September and October This program is offered in partnership between TECO (Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office).and Gilroy Library Classes will be taught by Linda Chen, a Mandarin teacher at Branham High School with over 20 years of experience teaching Mandarin.

Reading Buddies provides students in grades K-3 with an opportunity to improve their reading skills by working one-on-one with a volunteer from Cambrian Branch Library’s Teens Reach. Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our volunteers will listen to children read and provide support in phonics, sight words, and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Cambrian Branch Library.Free. Pre-registration not required. NeuroSpark Brain Science Series

Children ages 7-10 will learn about the parts of the brain, their functions, and how the brain sends signals and works with the body through hands-on activities including making and painting clay models of the brain, doing worksheets, and playing games. Attending all 3 sessions is encouraged but not required. Limited to 15 youth with tickets. How to Attend: Families will need to get one ticket per participating child for each session they attend on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets for 15 youth will be available at the Greeter Desk starting 30 minutes before the program. Accompanying family members can attend without tickets.
