Storytime includes a variety of early literacy activities such as stories, songs, rhymes, and movement activities. Storytime is a fun and interactive experience for the whole family that promotes the joys of reading and learning for all ages. This program is targeted to children under the age of two and their caregivers. Please note that this storytime is an indoor/outdoor program. Access to the Secret Garden outside is weather dependent. Reading to Children

Participating in the Reading to Children program is a great way for children to develop their imagination and spark a love for books, reading and learning. Children will enjoy one-on-one or small group interaction with our volunteer. They are also welcome to practice reading to our volunteer. Pre-registration is not required, and children may drop in to hear a story any time during the program. This program is best suited for preschoolers and children in grades K-3 and will be held in the Children’s Picture Book area.This program runs concurrently with our Baby & Toddler Storytime and offers young ones a quieter/low-energy alternative. Beautiful and fascinating wildlife live in the fields and forests surrounding our cities and suburbs. You will gain an insight into the secret lives of these intelligent and ecologically important animals with a visit from a live grey fox, kingsnake, red-tailed hawk, and skunk.This is a special event for this year’s Summer Reading Program: Plant a Seed, Read. Thank you to the Los Altos Friends of the Library for their generosity in making this event possible.Due to limited space, we will start handing out free tickets 30 minutes before each event. Summer Reading Buddies: Time-Travel

Drop in and work on your reading skills this summer! Join us for games, activities, and one-on-one reading practice with our supportive high school interns. This program is offered in partnership with the Stanford Haas Center for Public Service. Open to children entering kindergarten and up. This week, we will participate in a variety of time-travel-themed reading activities and crafts. Come join us to learn about the past and make your own dinosaur!
