Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Description Join us for Tai Chi sessions with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance through slow, gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

(Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. Drop in every fourth Sunday at 1pm for a new STEAM adventure, from robots to engineering to science to making. Supplies will be provided but may be limited and will be available while they last. Celebrate SJPL’s Graphic Novel Making Contest and Summer Learning with a “Decorate Your Own Sketchbook” kit. Pick up a sketchbook kit at the Summer Learning table or ask at the information desk on a first come, first served basis. One kit per child while supplies last. Kit includes a sketchbook and some comics pages to decorate with. Defense-ability Personal Safety Presentation

Sunday Crafternoon: Frame the Fun: Comic Art Workshop

Utilize old manga, comic, and graphic novel pages to create personalized bookmarks and picture frames. This hands-on workshop encourages participants to repurpose pages from their favorite stories into unique and creative decor. More Information about the Contest The Graphic Novel Making Contest (GNMC) was developed in 2008 as a teen program at a single branch library in recognition of growing interest in graphic novels and graphic arts. Inspired by participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of art, the contest grew into a system-wide annual tradition, open to participants of all ages and all California residents. The contest concludes with an awards ceremony to celebrate the creative efforts of all participants, announce the contest winners, and offer inspirational messages from guest speakers in the comics industry. Puppet Art Theater Presents: Tommy’s Pirate Adventure

Description Join us at the Mitchell Park Library in the Kid’s Place for a performance of Tommy’s Pirate Adventure by Puppet Art Theater Co. Tommy’s and his dog Fifi are enjoying living on Alligator Island, at least until the pirates show up. Pirate’s X’s and mixed up treasure land Tommy and his dog in big trouble with Barnacle Billy and the evil Captain Rigatoni. Confusion and mayhem lead to fun as Tommy ends up playing pirates for real in “Tommy’s Pirate Adventure.” This program is part of our 2026 Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities . Summer Music in the Courtyard-Halkins Brass Quintet

The Halkins Brass Quintet is a professional ensemble active in the San Francisco Bay Area, composed of skilled musicians who frequently perform with other local groups such as Symphony Parnassus and the Menlo Brass Quintet. Their music spans eight centuries, from Renaissance to Modern, including Pop, Jazz, and music from movies and TV. The group is part of a vibrant brass community in the region, with members like principal trumpet Christopher Wilhite also contributing to the San Francisco Brass Band and Brazzissimo. Known for their versatility, the quintet performs a wide range of brass chamber music in various settings. Summer Music in the Courtyard Join us this summer for our 4th annual Summer Music in the Courtyard series, a weekly all-ages event featuring a vibrant mix of live music every Sunday afternoon. Set in Cupertino Library’s welcoming outdoor courtyard, each week showcases a different genre from jazz and folk to classical guitar, and world music. There is music for everyone to enjoy. Part of the STEM Sundays Programming at Alviso Branch Library.The Julia Robinson Math Festival is an event that provides students with fun and meaningful math experiences to develop their mathematical confidence, joy, and problem solving skills. At the festival, there will be a variety of play-based, manipulative-based math puzzles and games for students in grades K - 8 and their parents/caregiver. Each activity will be led by at least one trained volunteer who will introduce the activity and keep students engaged and excited as they explore. The festival will be open for 1.5 hours, during which time kids will get to explore the festival at their own pace, choosing where they want to go and for how long they want to do each activity. Everyone Can Code: Sphero Robots

Learn the basics of Sphero. Learn to roll, aim, control the LEDs, change heading, and detect collisions. Once you have the basics down, you can practice coding through simple, beginner-friendly activities. Students will be introduced to coding and robotics using the iPad and Sphero robots.
