Pan-Arabic Percussions & Melodies

Rejoice in the music at a live pan-Arabic concert for all ages! Learn all about three different Arabic drums: the derbakki, the riqq, and the frame drum, as well as a range of melodic instruments. Musician Faisal Zedan and his accompanists will engage families with songs and rhythms from a diversity of Arabic music traditions throughout the Middle East and North Africa, from classical music to folk songs and pop. K-8th grade students can get their assignments done, practice reading, or study in a supportive environment. Bring your homework and drop-in to work at your own pace. Volunteer Away Your Fines

Every now and then, libraries need a little extra love from the communities they serve. You can volunteer away your library fines at a rate of $20 per hour while helping the library maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Volunteers will be responsible for: Book cover cleaning – Use disinfecting wipes to reinvigorate dingy books.Bookshelves – Dust shelves and organize library materials.Deep cleaning computers – Use disinfecting wipes to disinfect computer mice and mouse pads and compressed air to remove any dust particles or debris.Material inspection – Check books for torn pages, pen marks, etc. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering away their library fines. Beginner Acoustic Jam

Play music together at our monthly Beginner Acoustic Jam session! Join us the 3rd Wednesday of every month for a relaxed, judgment-free jam session in the Gilroy Library upstairs community room. This event is designed specifically for beginners, “rusty” musicians, and anyone who wants to make music in a supportive group setting. No registration needed. The Vibe: Simple Songs: We’ll play easy-to-follow, popular favorites (with an occasional “stretch” tune). Guidance Provided: We’ll provide the chord charts and facilitate the group. All Acoustic Instruments Welcome: While we are a ukulele-led group, we welcome guitars, banjos, basses, and other acoustic instruments! Join us for evening Family Storytime in our program room! This storytime series is suitable for all ages and will feature stories, songs, rhymes and dances, all to encourage the development of crucial early literacy skills. Parents and children will listen together, learn together, and sing together. Storytime is limited to the first 100 families, with a maximum of 2 adults per family group. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket to sit on.
