Time: 4:00 PM | Location: King Library Library - Children’s Exploration Room, Mezzanine
With the rise of social media and influencers, consumerism has especially increased for children. In this interactive workshop geared toward students in Grades 3-5, we will explore the social, economic, and environmental impacts of consumerism. Through interactive games and a mini-debate, students will step into the shoes of different people in the cycle of a product: the shopper, worker, and the Earth. By the end, students will understand what consumerism is and identify simple, everyday actions they can take to reduce its negative impacts. The workshop will end with students creating a “Wanted” poster that teaches others about the harms of materialism by focusing on the impacts of a specific company or trendy product, and advocates for more mindful, responsible choices. This program is offered by Policy Rewired, a nonprofit organization that helps communities understand the systems that affect them and take action for change. Free. Registration is required. This series is taught in English only. ADA Accommodation Requests ¿Lo Compras o Lo Dejas?
