Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies provides students in grades K-3 with an opportunity to improve their reading skills by working one-on-one with a reading coach. Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our reading coach will listen to children read and provide support in reading and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Berryessa Branch Library. Free. Tickets can be picked up at the Information Desk up to 30 minutes before the program begins. Tickets are limited. Please bring ticket and wait close to “Read to Children” sign in Children’s Area. Storytime with AAC

Enhance your child’s communication with “Storytime with AAC”!  This program is designed for children with disabilities who use, or would benefit from, means of communication other than their voice. They use AAC devices, iPads, pictures, pointing, or exchanging pictures to communicate. It is designed for emergent communicators five years old and up (emergent communicators are new/existing AAC users who typically communicate with single words). Open to children of all abilities!  A parent/caregiver must accompany the child for all the sessions. Due to limited seating, we request that only 1 caregiver per child attend. *This program is conducted in collaboration with Something To Say and with support from students in the Speech Language Pathology Program at San José State University.This program is developed to align with the Early Education Quality Standards.ADA Accommodation Requests

Pan-Arabic Percussion & Melodies

Rejoice in the music at a live pan-Arabic concert for all ages! Learn all about three different Arabic drums: the derbakki, the riqq, and the frame drum, as well as a range of melodic instruments. Musician Faisal Zedan and his accompanists will engage families with songs and rhythms from a diversity of Arabic music traditions throughout the Middle East and North Africa, from classical music to folk songs and pop. He’ll even demonstrate a few beats you can try out for yourself!
