STEM Beyond Boundaries: The Mariana Trench (Ages 8-13)

Time: 4:00 PM | Location: Los Gatos Public Library - Technology Lab

The Mariana Trench - The Deepest Place on Earth The Mariana Trench is a trench in the Pacific Ocean that is the deepest part of the ocean, deeper than the height of Mount Everest! It is an environment with huge amounts of pressure that humans cannot survive — but some other organisms can. How is it that the Mariana Trench contains many diverse life forms, and how did we channel our knowledge of engineering to survive in this inhospitable environment as well? Come enjoy a discussion-based seminar in the Technology Lab on the 2nd floor , observing the Mariana Trench through the lens of biology, ecology, and engineering. Kids and tweens ages 8-13 are welcome! This intellectually stimulating science seminar is led by STEM Beyond Boundaries , an organization comprised of driven high school students who work to provide hands-on STEM activities, resources, and mentorship to communities. Their goal is to spark curiosity, confidence, and innovation in young learners and to make STEM education accessible to all children, regardless of background. The Los Gatos Library recognizes the diversity of our community and is committed to accessibility for all patrons. We strive to make every visitor feel comfortable by ensuring equal access to programs, services, and activities.
