Weekend Baby Lap-Sit Storytime (Age 0-1)

Join us for Baby Lap-Sit Storytime at the Library! Baby storytime is the perfect way to learn about early literacy with your non-walking baby. Join us in a friendly circle as we read board books together and sing fun songs to engage your non-walking children. Baby Storytime will take place in the Children’s Room before our Library opens - please note that you will need to enter through the Garden Gate on the very right side of the building, instead of entering through our main entrance doors. Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Description Join us for Tai Chi sessions with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance through slow, gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

Interested in picking up the fun life-skill of sewing? Want to add a personal touch to your clothes? Join us for Its Sew Easy: Scrappy Patches.Whether you’re a beginner or experienced sewist this scrappy project is perfect for all skill levels. Bringing scraps from your stash to use on this project is welcome but not required. The library will provide scraps and other necessary materials. OneinMath: Math Program for K-3rd at Educational Park

Sunday STEAM

Drop in every fourth Sunday at 1pm for a new STEAM adventure, from robots to engineering to science to making. Supplies will be provided but may be limited and will be available while they last. For January, we will make and test straw rockets and string telephones (uses thumbtacks) to explore the scientific concepts of forces, motion, and sound.Free. (Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. Lunar New Year Celebration! (欢庆春节)

Description Celebrate Lunar New Year with Palo Alto City Library! Join us for a fun-filled event on Sunday, January 25 from 2:30-4:30pm as we ring in the Year of the Firehorse. Performers will start at 3:00pm, include: Cornerstone School Stanford’s Mua Lac Hong Palo Alto High School’s Kpop Dance Club (PALYCE) Joyous Lion Dance Troupe Outreach table: ICAN (International Children Assistance Network) This event also includes crafts, along with our very Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo friends, and light snacks. Ideal for children 3-11 and their families, but all are welcome. Due to limited space availability, seating is offered at a first some, first served basis. Please plan accordingly for parking. This event will be held in the El Palo Alto Room of the Mitchell Park Community Center.

Math Festival

This program was brought to you by the San Jose Legacy Youth Foundation. Part of the STEM Sundays Programming at Alviso Branch Library.The Julia Robinson Math Festival is an event that provides students with fun and meaningful math experiences to develop their mathematical confidence, joy, and problem solving skills. At the festival, there will be a variety of play-based, manipulative-based math puzzles and games for students in grades K - 8 and their parents/caregiver. Each activity will be led by at least one trained volunteer who will introduce the activity and keep students engaged and excited as they explore. The festival will be open for 1.5 hours, during which time kids will get to explore the festival at their own pace, choosing where they want to go and for how long they want to do each activity.
