Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Time: 10:00 AM | Location: Rinconada Library - Embarcadero Room

Description Join us for a weekly Tai Chi session with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance, through slow and gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

Introduction to Python For Beginners

Time: 11:00 AM | Location: Mitchell Park Library - Midtown Room (1st floor)

Description Join us to learn the basics of engineering and Python programming; no prior knowledge needed! In 8-weeks, we’ll cover Python fundamentals, hands-on projects, and grow our technical skills and enthusiasm for future STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning opportunities. This program is intended for 3-5th grade students. This program meets weekly on Sundays starting at 11:00 AM from September 14th through November 2nd. Registration is required for the full 8-week series, as each session builds upon the last.Due to limited library laptop availability, bringing your own device with Wi-Fi connection capabilities for coding is highly encouraged! If you cannot bring a laptop, please check out a Chromebook at the library’s front desk ahead of time for each class.Registration will open on August 14th at 9:00 AM.

Join us for a free math program for Kindergarten to 3rd grade students to learn basic arithmetic. Including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division from one digit to four digit numbers. (Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. STEM: The Adventure of Birds

Time: 1:00 PM | Location: Berryessa Library - Community Room

In these interactive sessions, participants will build an appreciation for native bird species. In the proceeding weeks, this program will cover the following.Session 1: Introduction to the structure of birds with the creation of paper models and drawings of birds. This session will include a short nature walk.Session 2: Introduction to bird watching with an introduction to the American Crow and Canada Goose with the creation of Canada Goose made of play dough and bird id cards for American Crows. Session 3: Introduction to bird migration with a creation of paper models of wings.Session 4: What can people do to help birds with creation of a bird feeder or bird house. There will also be an introduction to how to identify a fledgling, and what is the best thing to do if you find one.Registration Required. If you register, please be on-time. Sunday Crafternoon- Sock Monsters!

Time: 2:00 PM | Location: Biblioteca Latinoamericana Library - Community Room

Looking for a project that’s spooky and oh-sew-adorable? Join us for an afternoon of sock monster creation! Armed with needles, thread, buttons, and an array of other craft supplies, participants will learn the basics of hand sewing as they design and craft their very own sock monsters. Each sock monster is unique, after short demos on the various ways to construct a sock monster, participants will have time to customize their new, adorably scary, plush friends. As they create, participants will be encouraged to imagine the stories behind their creations. There will be time for sharing creations and lore at the end of the session. This project is best for ages 10+; adults are encouraged to join us and get their craft on. Younger participants may need the help of a grown-up or older sibling. Free. Family Movie: A Minecraft Movie

Bring your own snacks and a enjoy a fun movie with the family. This month we will be watching A Minecraft Movie (rated PG). This program is recommended for ages 3 and up and their caregivers. STEMladder Sessions: Explore Geology

This program is best for students in grades 3-5. Registration recommended to guarantee a spot, but walk-ins welcome if we have enough materials. STEMLadder is a volunteer- and student-led initiative providing hands-on insight into STEM fields to students looking to expand their interest in different STEM subjects. Each session will include an interactive lesson presented by well-versed student volunteer tutors and be accompanied by an immersive activity or experiment. By inspiring creativity and problem solving through the application of learned ideas, we aim to provide a memorable lesson of each core concept with thoughtful takeaways. In this session, we will have an introduction to geology, and learn hands-on with a “lava lamp” experiment. Free, with limited capacity. Description Curious about Artificial Intelligence? Join us for Ignite AI, a fun, hands-on workshop designed for youth ages 12–15.
