Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Time: 10:00 AM | Location: Rinconada Library - Embarcadero Room

Description Join us for a weekly Tai Chi session with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance, through slow and gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

Calling all creative minds in grades 3-5! We’re thrilled to invite you to our Music Lab program every Sunday in September, starting September 7th, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Nest at the Gilroy Library! In this hands-on program, participants will create three unique musical instruments—a percussive instrument, a string instrument, and a wind instrument. We’ll explore the fascinating world of sound and music through fun demonstrations that cover vibrations, pitch, amplitude, and waves. Think like a scientist and a musician as you discover the physics behind music! Claymation Film Workshops for Ages 4-14

Time: 2:00 PM | Location: Milpitas Library

Discover the art of filmmaking through this fun and interactive Claymation workshop designed for youth ages 4–14. Led by industry experts, participants will gain hands-on experience in character development, storytelling, and stop-motion animation—all while exploring the creative process from a filmmaker’s perspective. This two-part workshop series includes: Workshop 1: Students will design their own character, including visual details and a back-storyWorkshop 2: Students will learn to animate their character and create a short Claymation film 🎥 Completed films will be showcased at the Youth and Student Film segment of the upcoming Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, providing participants with the exciting opportunity to see their work on the big screen. 📌 Created by PJIFF Director L. Mattock “Mattie” Scariot, the Youth Film Program empowers local youth to tell their own stories and discover future possibilities in the filmmaking world. Using family photos, original Kiowa art, and Winter Count calendars, Mattie shares how storytelling shaped her own journey as a filmmaker and author. 📚 Past workshops have attracted children and adults alike, with engaging discussions on cultural storytelling, identity, and creative craft. Each session fosters discovery, skill-building, and recognition for young creators. 🌍 The Festival takes place every April across Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Hollister, and San Juan Bautista, and draws more than 3,000 attendees from around the Bay Area and around the globe. Tween & Teen Mario Kart

Japanese Summer Storytime

Time: 3:00 PM | Location: Sunnyvale Library

Join us for a special summer-themed Japanese language storytime! Enjoy a craft and storytime with picture books in Japanese, fingerplays, nursery rhymes and traditional songs accompanied by instruments.  This program is for children ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers. This program will take place in the Library Program room. No registration is required, but space is limited. Doors will close when the program is full.
