Early Learning Playtime

Learn while you play at this drop-in playtime for our littlest patrons. This program is for children ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers. This program will be in the Library Program Room. No registration is required, but space is limited. Doors will close when the room is full. Public Speaking Workshop for Kids with Future Speakers Initiative

Public speaking doesn’t have to be intimidating. It can be fun, empowering, and a skill students carry for life.In this interactive session, students will explore the foundations of confident speaking. They’ll learn how to project their voice, express ideas clearly, and carry themselves with presence, all through age-appropriate, engaging activities designed to build comfort and self-assurance in front of an audience.Whether your child is naturally talkative or just starting to find their voice, this workshop offers a supportive space to grow communication skills, build confidence, and have fun along the way.No prior experience is necessary. All are welcome!Future Speakers Initiative (FSI) is a teen-led nonprofit dedicated to bridging the gap in access to speech and debate education for underserved communities.This 90-minute interactive workshop is open to students in grades 3-5. The workshop blends short lectures, group activities, and speaking practice. Led by experienced high school speech and debate leaders, the program is designed to be fun, confidence-boosting, and accessible to all skill levels. Students will be given an optional paper survey at each session to help assess learning and ways to improve the camp. Free. Registration required (using your child(ren’s) name(s) is recommended). Join us every Friday for a new craft activity. This week, we’ll make a beautiful 3D floral wreath for hanging. All supplies will be provided. Free. No registration required. For ages 6 and up. Staff might limit the number of craft kits per family to ensure more families can participate. Supplies are limited so priority will be given to children and teens who are present at the program. Fall into Fiction: Plot Points
Time: 4:00 PM | Location: Almaden Library - Program Room
How do writers create their stories? We will look into elements that make a story. Come and explore how stories work. Student writers will analyze the plot of Three Little Pigs; then create their own story. In one hour, students will begin a story that they can finish on their own and submit to San Jose Public Library’s own short story contest, Fall into Fiction, starting in September.
