Summer Finale: Happy Birds

Description What’s up this Wednesday? Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading for a Cause program with a fun performance by Happy Birds ! Amazing and colorful parrots will perform over 25 tricks during this exciting bird show! Ed and Julie Cardoza’s macaws, cockatoos, and amazons have been featured on The Tonight Show, Pet Star, The Ellen show and even the Guinness Book of World Records. Ed and Julie Cardoza started Happy Birds in 1989. The couple take great pride in the care of their parrots. All of their birds are locally raised. Some were adopted into their show and others are rescued birds.
Claymation Film Workshops for Ages 4-14

Led by industry experts, participants will gain hands-on experience in character development, storytelling, and stop-motion animation—all while exploring the creative process from a filmmaker’s perspective. This two-part workshop series includes: Workshop 1: Students will design their own character, including visual details and a back-storyWorkshop 2: Students will learn to animate their character and create a short Claymation film 🎥 Completed films will be showcased at the Youth and Student Film segment of the upcoming Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, providing participants with the exciting opportunity to see their work on the big screen. 📌 Created by PJIFF Director L. Mattock “Mattie” Scariot, the Youth Film Program empowers local youth to tell their own stories and discover future possibilities in the filmmaking world. Using family photos, original Kiowa art, and Winter Count calendars, Mattie shares how storytelling shaped her own journey as a filmmaker and author. 📚 Past workshops have attracted children and adults alike, with engaging discussions on cultural storytelling, identity, and creative craft. Each session fosters discovery, skill-building, and recognition for young creators. 🌍 The Festival takes place every April across Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Hollister, and San Juan Bautista, and draws more than 3,000 attendees from around the Bay Area and around the globe. Paws for Tales

Do you have a reluctant reader? Sign your child up to have their own session to practice reading with a therapy dog at the library. Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don’t perceive animals to be judgmental and reading to an animal helps them become more confident readers. We’d like to thank our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program. Every now and then, libraries need a little extra love from the communities they serve. You can volunteer away your library fines at a rate of $20 per hour while helping the library maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Volunteers will be responsible for: Book cover cleaning – Use disinfecting wipes to reinvigorate dingy books.Bookshelves – Dust shelves and organize library materials.Deep cleaning computers – Use disinfecting wipes to disinfect computer mice and mouse pads and compressed air to remove any dust particles or debris.Material inspection – Check books for torn pages, pen marks, etc. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering away their library fines.
