Baby Bounce Storytime With Stay and Play!

Bring your bouncing baby to our biweekly playtime, full of nursery rhymes and songs you can do together to stimulate your baby’s development. Ideal for newborns up to 18 months old, but all are welcome. After Storytime join us for Stay and Play, a time to engage in open-ended exploration and learning in the company of other children and caregivers.

Read to Succeed: Reading with a Police Officer

Join a special guest from the San José Police Department (SJPD) at the Almaden Branch Library to share stories and the joys of reading to children as part of our Read to Succeed early education program. We’re excited to partner with the SJPD to bring this special program to the Almaden neighborhood. Would you like your children to have fun listening to stories while building their vocabulary, developing listening skills, and enhancing their reading comprehension? Read to Succeed is a partnership between the San José Public Library and the SJPD to promote early literacy, as well as build positive and inspiring interactions between police officers, children and their caregivers through structured programming at SJPL locations. Rescue Readers - Reading with the San José Animal Care Center

Rescue Readers is a one-hour program for all readers, where participants read to the animals at the SJ Animal Care Adoption Center. Reading Buddies

Time: 4:00 PM | Location: Joyce Ellington Library - Children’s Area

Reading Buddies provides students in grades K-3 with an opportunity to improve their reading skills by working one-on-one with a reading coach. Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our reading coach will listen to children read and provide support in reading and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Joyce Ellington Branch Library. Free. Pre-registration not required. However, reading sessions are available on a first come, first served basis and the duration of reading sessions may be limited depending on the number of participating students. Everyone Can Create: Emoji Art

In this program kids will learn how to draw and create on iPads! Kids in grades in 3-5 will be taught using the Tayasui Sketches app. Students will learn about sketch lines which they will be able to use in their fun and engaging Emoji art projects! STEAM Team: Monster Plushies

Today, we’ll be scientists, engineers and beyond! Join us at the library the fourth Monday of the month for a new STEAM activity for you to explore. This time, we’ll be learning the basics of hand-sewing by using our creativity to design our own stuffed felt monsters. Registration is not required to attend, but we do ask that you RSVP ahead of time, as it will affect the amount of supplies we provide. Drop-ins are still welcome, though capacity limits may apply.
