Tai Chi with Nelson Ng

Description Join us for a weekly Tai Chi session with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance, through slow and gentle movement. Nelson started learning Chen’s Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.
Intro to Coding with STEM for Others

Description Get a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to Java and Python in this hands-on 4-week workshop series, meeting Sundays, August 3rd - 24th at 10:30am. Taught by a team of enthusiastic high school students from STEM for Others , this program is designed to help soon-to-be high schoolers build foundational coding skills in a supportive and engaging environment. No prior experience? No problem! Each week, you’ll learn core programming concepts while working on creative, real-world projects like simple games and digital art—projects you can actually build and share. You’ll also develop key problem-solving skills and gain confidence using technology in exciting new ways. Open to students in grades 5–8. OneinMath: Math Program for K-3rd at Educational Park

Join us for a free math program for Kindergarten to 3rd grade students to learn basic arithmetic. Including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division from one digit to four digit numbers. It is taught by trained high school students. The focus is to build confidence and love for math in young students. Sunday STEAM

Drop in every fourth Sunday at 1pm for a new STEAM adventure, from robots to engineering to science to making. Supplies will be provided but may be limited and will be available while they last. Human Anatomy: Cells

Join us for the coming series class, all about cells! This four-session class will be held on 4 Sundays—August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th—from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, with the final session-Art Project- on August 24th extended to 2:30 pm. The first three sessions will include fun lectures, ice breakers, coloring pages, and interactive Kahoot games to help participants explore the fascinating world of cells. The final class will feature a 90-minute cell model competition where students can get creative and apply what they’ve learned. (Virtual) Chess Club

Are you interested in playing and learning chess? If so, sign up to attend this fun virtual Chess Club hosted by Seven Trees Branch Library! You will be paired up with other kids to play real chess games using virtual chess boards online. Our volunteers are also very knowledgeable and can teach you several strategies and tips, through fun activities and interactive games. The games will be played online using a safe platform. You are encouraged to sign up for a free account at lichess.org, so you can join our online club to play games with us! Chess Club takes place weekly, and you are free to play every week, or drop in and out if you like. You only need to register once and you’ll be added to our roster. Age: 5-12 years old (Elementary to Middle School). Date: Every Sunday from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Registration: Please register on this page to attend the weekly sessions (an email address is required). The Zoom link and password will be emailed before class each week. Software: No software is required to download, but you must have a computer with Internet and a web browser to access the lichess.org website. This program will be held online via Zoom. End of Summer Arcade

Improve your math skills and apply them through fun math-related activities! Participants will focus on a variety of math concepts and do hands-on math activities in this weekly drop-in program. For children in grades 3-5 only. Registration not required. Instruction on the week’s concept will occur during the first 15-20 minutes, so please arrive on time. STEMladder Sessions: Explore Biology
Time: 2:00 PM | Location: King Library Library - Children’s Exploration Room, Mezzanine
This program is best suited for students in grades 3-5. Registration recommended. STEMLadder is a volunteer- and student-led initiative providing hands-on insight into STEM fields to students looking to expand their interests. Each session will include an interactive lesson presented by well-versed student volunteer tutors and be accompanied by an immersive activity or experiment. By inspiring creativity and problem solving through the application of learned ideas, we aim to provide a memorable lesson of each core concept with thoughtful takeaways. In this session, we will have an introduction to osmosis, will observe the results of \the naked egg\ experiment, as well as prepare our own osmosis experiment to take home and observe. This program was brought to you by the San Jose Legacy Youth Foundation. The Julia Robinson Math Festival is an event that provides students with fun and meaningful math experiences to develop their mathematical confidence, joy, and problem solving skills. At the festival, there will be a variety of play-based, manipulative-based math puzzles and games for students in grades K - 8 and their parents/caregiver. Each activity will be led by at least one trained volunteer who will introduce the activity and keep students engaged and excited as they explore. The festival will be open for 1.5 hours, during which time kids will get to explore the festival at their own pace, choosing where they want to go and for how long they want to do each activity.
